Last year, on July 3, police in Agra made a shocking discovery. They found the body of 45-year-old Surendra Kumar Sharma buried under the bathroom floor of his own house. Investigators believe his wife, Ruby Sharma, planned the murder.

This case comes from Renuka Dham Colony in Agra’s Sikandra area. Police dug up the bathroom floor after receiving information from family members and questioning Ruby.

Who Was Surendra Sharma?

Surendra Kumar Sharma was originally from Bharatpur, Rajasthan. He had lived in Agra for nearly nine years with his wife Ruby, his elderly mother Kamla, and their two daughters.

Police say Ruby filed a missing person complaint on May 26, the same day investigators believe the murder took place. For the next 45 days, she continued living in the house while police searched for her husband.

A neighbor, Gaurav Dixit, told reporters that the couple often argued. He also said Surendra struggled with unemployment and alcohol addiction.

How the Murder Came to Light

The investigation changed after a conversation inside the family.

According to police, Ruby told her mother-in-law Kamla that Surendra was not missing. She allegedly said she had buried him beneath the bathroom floor. Kamla informed another son, Anil Sharma, who immediately contacted police.

Officers returned to the house and questioned Ruby again. ACP Amisha said Ruby also confessed during questioning. Police then dug up the bathroom floor and found human skeletal remains.

Authorities have sent the remains for post-mortem examination to confirm the identity and determine the cause of death.

Until that point, Ruby had reportedly joined search efforts and accompanied police during the investigation.

How Was the Killing Allegedly Planned?

Police describe the murder as premeditated.

Investigators say Ruby first sent both daughters to Surendra’s elder brother’s house. She then cleaned the home.

Police allege she served Surendra kheer mixed with a large quantity of sleeping pills. After he lost consciousness, she allegedly strangled him.

The next morning, she dug a pit inside the bathroom, placed the body inside, and covered it with concrete. She then laid fresh tiles on top.

Afterward, she filed a missing person complaint.

During later visits, police noticed the newly tiled bathroom floor and became suspicious.

Ruby’s Alleged Motive

Ruby told investigators that she suffered years of domestic abuse. She claimed her husband was unemployed and heavily dependent on alcohol.

Police are treating these claims as an alleged motive. The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities have not independently verified the abuse allegations.

Investigators are also examining whether anyone helped her bury the body and renovate the bathroom floor.

Investigation: What Happens Next?

Police have registered a murder case and taken Ruby Sharma into custody. Further legal action will depend on post-mortem and forensic reports.

Key Questions Investigators Are Examining

Could Others Be Involved?

Police say they suspect that more than one person may have been involved in either the murder or the disposal of the body. Questioning and investigation continue.

Bottom Line

For 45 days, police treated the case as a missing person investigation. Investigators now believe the answer lay buried inside the house itself.

According to police, Ruby Sharma allegedly filed the complaint, cooperated with search efforts, and concealed the body under a newly tiled bathroom floor. The case came to light only after a family conversation reached the police.

Post-mortem and forensic reports will determine the full facts of the case. Until then, the investigation remains open.
